Following a remarkable four-year streak of consistent album releases and project deliveries since 2019, which culminated in her JUNO win in 2021 and multiple accolades as an actress, TÖME is ready to cap off the year with a refreshingly candid, free-spirited, and genre-defying project that will undoubtedly leave you intrigued about her artistic evolution.
Despite her initial musical direction, where she graced us with unforgettable Afropop and Afrobeat hits while riding the wave as one of Canada's most recognized Afro-Fusion artists of this generation, TÖME now takes a bold step in a new direction. She brings to the forefront an ethereal and Alté musicality that is more cohesive than ever before. One thing we can always rely on Töme for is her innate ability to seamlessly blend genres, and thus, the title of this EP, PRELUDE signifies the reintroduction of Töme's musical artistry as she progresses in her career.
The EP opens with "LOST N FOUND," a poignant track that alludes to the mourning she has endured and continues to navigate since the loss of her father. Over the past four years, he had also served as her manager and unwavering supporter, influencing every aspect of her career and life. It's a journey of losing oneself while simultaneously discovering new dimensions of her identity. Next up is "BELONG," a song that encapsulates TÖME feelings towards life at this moment. It conveys the confusion and her heartfelt cry for guidance as she endeavours to discern her true purpose. "YEARNING" follows, a track that beautifully blends heartbreak with a bouncy instrumental, evoking both sadness and the urge to dance. Transitioning to "HONEST," listeners gain insight into TÖME’s perspective on the music industry's current state and the perceived lack of authenticity.
